Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso was recently selected as one of the eleven best players in the Premier League this season in the Team Of The Year and maybe we have found out why he was added to the quality line up.
According to WhoScored, Alonso is the only Premier League defender to have been directly involved in eight goals this season. The former Fiorentina left full back has scored six goals this season, while assisting two more in the Premier League alone, which is unmatched by any of the top defenders in the league.

Alonso’s contribution since joining Chelsea two summers ago, can not be understated. He has been very crucial to the balance of Antonio Conte’s setup and led by example on the left of Chelsea team.
The Spanish defender has been phenomenal in his position, and despite some calls from Chelsea fans to replace him in the team, Alonso keeps improving and proving why he is of Chelsea standard.
