Olivier Giroud welcomes ‘fair’ competition in Chelsea’s attack following recent heroics

Chelsea have a new goalscorer, and it’s Olivier Giroud who has slowly injected himself into Antonio Conte’s setup at the club since his arrival from Arsenal in January.

The France international has been one of the Blues most in form players in recent weeks following his goals in different competitions. He scored twice against Southampton in the Premier League two weekends ago, before tucking in another the in Blues’ FA Cup semi final clash with Saints on Sunday.

After he scored his goal in the second half to open the scoring for the Blues, Conte decided to bring on Alvaro Morata to secure the Blues a grand finish against Mark Hughes’ side. The Spaniard also grabbed another goal moments after his introduction with a fine header.

Giroud says he is not bothered both strikers are scoring goals, and welcomes the fair competition in the team to win trophies.

“Competition is always good, especially for strikers, because you need to keep maximum 100 per cent give your best. It helps to step up and help the team win the games. It’s a fair competition.

We’ve done well when we played Alvaro when we played Burnley, we’ve done well with Eden, with Willy, with Pedro, whoever is playing alongside us strikers we always try to combine to do work the boss is expecting us to do.”
