Gary Cahill stakes claim for first team spot in impressive display against Burnley

It was the ideal Gary Cahill game, and he sure delivered the goods.

Pushed down the pecking order by the emergence of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as competition in the back three, Gary Cahill played from the start against Burnley yesterday and was the best played in Chelsea’s back three.

The Englishman racked up some impressive numbers too: 5 interceptions and 15 clearances according to WhoScored.

Add to that the amazing long pass over the top that released Victor Moses to score the opening goal, and one great recovering tackle that stopped a certain goal, and you’ve got an A+ report card for the game.

There’s a huge game coming up in the FA Cup on Sunday, and Cahill has put himself right back in Antonio Conte’s plans with this display.

This could be the former Bolton man’s last season at Chelsea, and he’s clearly determined to end it on a high, both for him and for us.
