Chelsea’s bargain wonderkid transfer produces no hard feelings from former manager

Last week, the tribunal to decide how much Chelsea would have to pay for Ethan Ampadu met, and decided on a fee of £2.5, plus a 20% sell on fee.

This was, oddly, less than the £3m Chelsea had initially offered, and plenty of Exeter fans were furious about how little money they were getting for their prodigy.

On the other hand, their long-serving manager Paul Tisdale was more realistic about the whole matter, saying that selling players like Ampadu was a “productive source of income” for the South Coast club, in quotes carried in Devon Live.

The key here is not the fee really, but the potential for a huge windfall from the sell-on fee. If and when Chelsea move Ampadu on – which hopefully won’t be for some time – the Grecians could be set for another multi-million pound payment.

It’s a gamble on their part, but it was them who decided to take the matter to a tribunal, now they must accept their decision, and look on the bright side, like Tisdale.
