Chelsea must stop another former player haunting them in semi-final clash

Too many times this season already, Chelsea have been sunk by their former players.

In a decisive game against Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne’s goal was the difference, in one of the vital moments in both the title race, and in Chelsea’s ultimately disappointing season.

A couple of months later, it was Mo Salah’s turn to strike against the club who never gave him much of a chance.

Today it could be Ryan Bertrand’s turn. The former Blue – who started the Champions League win in 2012 – proved a menace in this fixture in its dress rehearsal last week, driving beyond the Chelsea defence to set up Dusan Tadic for the opening goal in that mad game.

Antonio Conte’s team must do much better protecting against the Southampton full-back’s advances down the left. He and Cedric on the right are his side’s greatest attacking threats. Take them out of the equation, and we will be well on our way to victory.
