Chelsea came very close to losing to Southampton last weekend, and it was only thanks to a collapse from the Saints that they were able to turn things round and win the game.
Perhaps that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, given the astonishing record that the Blues have against the team from the South Coast.
Chelsea have won all of their last five games against Southampton, a record that goes back to October 2015, when a collapsing Blues side under Jose Mourinho crumbled after going 1-0 up. Mourinho unleashed a major rant after the game, and was sacked soon after.
Since then, however it’s been a clean sweep for Chelsea, and the team they will face again tomorrow are perhaps the weakest team that they will have faced since Southampton’s return to the Premier League.
It looks like Antonio Conte’s side have turned the corner, and they have the perfect opposition in their sights tomorrow.
