Antonio Conte reveals surprising reason why he took Alvaro Morata off against Burnley

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte claims he did not take off Alvaro Morata from the Burnley clash due to his stunning miss.

The Italian decided to start with two forwards, Morata and Olivier Giroud, who gave a great deal of trouble to Burnley in the first half of the game. However one of the major talking points in the game arrived in the second half.

The Spaniard missed a great chance to double the scoreline for the Blues before the Clarets produced an equaliser minutes before he was substituted with Eden Hazard coming on.

Victor Moses came through for the team with the match winning goal which secured them three points. Morata’s miss, prior to Moses’ second goal, had allowed Burnley to grow into the game, and mount pressure on last season’s champions.

However, Conte is adamant he only made the changes in the second half to freshen things up in his squad.

“Around 70 minutes I thought that it was better to put fresh strength with Hazard. He is a player that has different characteristics to Morata. I am pleased for their performances, played very well”

Morata has been struggling for form this year, missing gilt edged chances and going several months without scoring before grabbing a goal against Brighton and Hove Albion earlier in April.
