Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has hailed Willian as the player most in form at the moment at the club, insisting the Brazilian ‘is in the middle’ of everything the team does on the pitch.
The Brazil forward has pulled off great performances while on the same pitch with Barcelona legend Lionel Messi. Before hitting the post with a strong shot in the second half, he has struck the other side of the post and scored against the La Liga giants in the round of 16 first leg at Stamford Bridge to cap off a spectacular performance.
Many had pointed to Eden Hazard as Chelsea’s most dangerous forward before the Champions League clash, but Willian stole the show and proved it yet again in Chelsea’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford vs Manchester United. He scored the Blues only goal in a 2-1 defeat.
Lampard feels the 29-year old has come of age and is easily Chelsea’s best player at the moment.
“Willian was basically at the middle of everything good that they [Chelsea] did. He is on top form at the moment, without a doubt Willian now could easily play in any team in the world.
He could have played in Barcelona’s team. We wax lyrical about Messi, I think Willian can play at that level.”
