“He has to show…the player he is inside” – Spain boss tells Alvaro Morata to improve or miss out on 2018 World Cup

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has been told by Spain national team boss Julen Lopetegui to arrest his poor club form and to earn a spot for the World Cup 2018 in Russia.

The tournament in Russia next summer will certainly have many surprise omissions from national teams parading their best players. Some star names will be missing and Spain may just have theirs as well.

If Morata will represent his country in the tournament that is the dream of every footballer, then the 25-year old needs to start scoring for fun at Chelsea.

Morata has rather been silent on the goal scoring aspect of the game this year. bagging his first goal for the Blues in their FA Cup quarter final win over Leicester City last Sunday. It was his first since December 2017.

Spain boss Lopetegui says the former Real Madrid forward needs to show ‘the player he is inside’ in these last few months to get unto the plane to Russia, after he was dropped for Spain’s two friendly games this month.

“Of course Morata has a lot of possibilities to go to the World Cup and he knows it. He has to show these months the player he is inside.”
