“So poor” – Cesc Fabregas reaches the end of the road at Chelsea with flaccid showing in definitive game

Wednesday should have been a showpiece game for Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard was returning to the Camp Nou where he received his footballing education, and where he played until his move to Stamford Bridge in 2014.

Not only that, but he was given the trust of his manager, who picked him in a midfield two with N’Golo Kante to face up against his former team. It was a brave call from the coach, but one that didn’t pay off.

While Kante was covering every blade of grass, Cesc was in the team to provide precision passing and some elements of creativity. But from the first moment he looked out of sorts.

He not only misplaced more passes than one would expect, but he also didn’t bring any of the magic touches one would hope for in the final third.

He’s brought a lot to this Chelsea team, and contributed hugely to two titles. But in the very top games he just doesn’t have the legs anymore. It’s time to look for an upgrade this summer.
