Olivier Giroud reveals who told him to join Chelsea in January

Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud has revealed that two Arsenal legends advised him to exit the Emirates for Chelsea after being dropped to third choice this season.

The Frenchman made his move early in the year but arrived very late at Stamford Bridge in the transfer window and has recently expressed his worry over his current form at his new club, while insisting the time was right when he moved to join Chelsea.

He claims he was encouraged by legends like Robert Pires, Freddy Ljungberg and other former Chelsea players to move on to another club saying they ‘advised I go for Chelsea as their playing style will suit me and challenge me to be a better player’.

“The difference is the coach made me sign and he wants to play me, he likes my profile.

Of course, the fact that Arsenal signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after recruiting Alexandre Lacazette last summer, that weighed heavily on the scales to make me lean towards leaving.

Dropping down to third choice, though, my departure became unavoidable.”
