“Who knows what can happen” – Chelsea midfielder wants national team call

Ruben Loftus cheek has said that he still believes he can make it into the England squad for the World Cup this summer.

He would have been odds on before Christmas, when he was playing well for loan team Crystal Palace and got in Gareth Southgate’s squad for a friendly against Germany.

But since then a series of injuries have kept him out of action, and he has not returned to club action in time to be included in these friendlies.

That means time is really running out to make it to the World Cup, but given England’s terrible options in the middle of the park, it’s no surprise he’s not ruled himself out.

“If I can get as much game time as possible, who knows what can happen?” he told Sky Sports when asked whether he was still holding out for a place in the team that heads to Russia this summer.

Given there are no other Chelsea players currently in the squad, it would be a real treat for Blues fans to have someone to support in the England camp this summer.
