Diego Costa has positive words for Alvaro Morata amid forward’s struggles at Chelsea

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has been in poor form lately, leading to his expulsion from the Spain squad in their international friendlies this month.

In his place is a departed Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who has been integral for Diego Simeone in their campaign since he was unveiled as their player in the January transfer window.

Morata has been struggling to get unto the score sheet for months now until he scored against Leicester City in the FA Cup last weekend. His goal opened the scoring for the Blues in a 2-1 victory that saw them march into the semi final. Before then, Morata had last scored in December, making almost three full months without a goal.

That poor form led to failure to get into the Spain squad for the friendlies against Germany and Argentina, and although head coach Julen Lopetegui insists Morata still has a chance to make the 2018 World Cup squad in the summer if he picks up form again, Costa wants him back quickly while conceding the 25-year old is having a bad time at the club.

“I’m not happy (because he isn’t there), I miss him because we get along very well. The competition is always good for me, nothing has been easy in my life.

Morata is a great person and a great footballer who is having a little bit of a bad time. But he has scored again (versus Leicester last week) and I hope he comes back soon.”
