Chelsea’s versatile defensive player fractures ankle and is ruled out for the season

Chelsea would be without Ethan Ampadu for the rest of the season after news broke that he had fractured his ankle and has withdrawn from international duty.

Having been called up by Wales for their upcoming friendlies in the international break, Ampadu was hoping to get some minutes in the national shirt, but has rather returned to Cobham to start his rehabilitation process.

He suffered a severe injury in Chelsea’s youth game against Real Madrid last Wednesday in what the club described as a ‘heavy collision’, but still hoped to be part of the Wales setup for the next two weeks.

However, the Wales FA released a statement on their official website to say Ampadu has withdrawn from the Wales squad to face China and fears are that he will not play a part in the Chelsea’s season that remains.

He has not been a regular fixture under Antonio Conte in the Chelsea first team, but has been used sparingly in the Carabao Cup games this season and also some cameo appearances in the Premier League.
