Chelsea set to miss out on top Serie A coach after contract talks are opened

Chelsea are set to miss out on top Italian Serie A tactician Mauricio Sarri, as the Napoli coach is on the verge of reopening contract talks with his side.

Napoli’s head coach had been said to be on the verge of exiting Napoli at the end of this season, but now appears set to renew his contract with the Serie A club.

His side have been the closest rivals to Juventus in Serie A this season, drifting away from AS Roma, Inter Milan and AC Milan. Now just two points separate the two sides at the top of the Italian top flight standings.

Napoli’s top brass seem convinced and happy about Sarri’s contribution to their side this season and want to reward him with a new deal.

If that happens, Chelsea would only be left with Luis Enrique as their possible targets next summer, as he is currently enjoying a sabbatical.

“It is not a problem. The contract is there and we will have to make sure the conditions are agreed.

The fans are great and I hope I can always give 100 per cent. If I am not able to do that then I will have to take a step back. Otherwise, I can go on. I feel a big debt to the fans and the only way I can [repay it] is to give my best.”
