Why Chelsea must give Brazilian signing games before the end of the season

While Olivier Giroud has been the centre of attention thanks to Alvaro Morata’s problems, another of Chelsea’s January signings has gone very much under the radar.

Emerson Palmieri has barely had a chance to play thanks to the run of vital games since his arrival. After starting against Hull City in the club’s last non-essential game, the Brazilian has returned to the bench, with the exception of a few substitute minutes against Manchester City.

There’s no reason to blame Antonio Conte or Palmieri for this, it’s just the way things have worked out. But it’s very important the club find some more minutes for the former Roma man soon.

If they don’t we will go into the summer unclear over whether he is a suitable backup to Marcos Alonso, and the transfer directors will not be sure whether a left wing back is still on their list.

Crystal Palace tomorrow would be a great place to start.
