Chelsea make first attempt in possible summer spending spree with dodgy bid for top European star

Chelsea have made a bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi in an attempt to outrun Real Madrid in the summer for his services, as the race for the rising striker hots up.

The forward has been one of the most dangerous players in Europe both this season and the last, scoring goals for fun while winning Inter some valuable points on the way.

Icardi is one of the most wanted players from the Italian Serie A, with Real also interested. The report from AS on Thursday says Chelsea wants to gazump Los Blancos for the signature of the Argentina international after he impressed this season with 22 goals and have made a bid of £55m.

His goals have come in thick and fast but one of his brightest moments this season was when he scored four goals in one game last weekend.

With Alvaro Morata struggling and Olivier Giroud yet to show his true goal scoring prowess at Stamford Bridge, Antonio Conte and his technical team have sanctioned the move to bring in Icardi next season.
