Today’s ridiculous rumour in Don Balon has a Chelsea twist.
The Spanish transfer publication has word that Atletico Madrid are interested in taking Chelsea’s misfiring striker Alvaro Morata off their hands.
This makes no sense for so many reasons.
Firstly Atletico are extremely well supplied up front. They have Antoine Griezmann, Diego Costa, Fernando Torres, Joaquin Correa and Kevin Gameiro all fighting for minutes already.
This means they are unlikely to want to buy another forward, especially one who will cost a lot of money. Morata may have disappointed this season, but there’s no chance that he would be sold for much less than he was bought for at this stage.
That would be a huge admission of their mistakes from the board, who are surely determined to give himself the chance to prove himself under a new manager, assuming a new face arrives this summer to replace Antonio Conte.
