Andreas Christensen gives Chelsea third injury blow during international break

Chelsea are likely to be without Andreas Christensen a brief while after the international break after he pulled out of Denmark’s squad for their friendly game against Panama on Thursday.

The young Dane has been on of the most reliable defenders for Antonio Conte this season after he walked into the side, replacing the struggling David Luiz. He has frequently played in the middle of the three-man defense in the Blues setup.

The defender had been called up to the Denmark side after starring in the famous Blue shirt in the Premier League but could not play a part in their friendly game against Panama on Thursday due to what the Denmark manager described as a ‘little fatigue’.

He has recently played a major part in Chelsea largely inconsistent form for the Premier League champions. He is one of a few who have consistently kept their place under Conte despite consistent failings on the pitch and Age Hareide says Christensen may be suffering from this.

“Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London. We do not want to take any risks with him. We have called up Peter Ankersen and Lasse Nielsen, so we are adequately covered in defence.

I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue. It’s not serious, but it can be. It is a bit frustrating because we would have liked to trial him in both central defence and as a defensive midfielder.”
