Early goals allow Chelsea’s young talents to get on the pitch

It was the setup that Chelsea fans had been crying out for in the earlier rounds of the cups. Thanks to some clinical early finishing that was sorely lacking in games like the two legs against Norwich, the tie against Hull was wrapped up by half time.

What that meant was that Antonio Conte was able to bring on some of the youngsters that Blues fans have been waiting to see for so long.

Callum Hudson Odoi was last given such an extended spell only against Bournemouth as the game faded to nothing, so for him to get a whole half of football against Hull was great to see.

Kyle Scott also finally made his first team debut, having trained with the big boys all season it was great to see him in Blue at last.

And that’s to say nothing of Ethan Ampadu, who started the game, and whose presence we’ve already grown so used to we forget that seeing him play was a total novelty just a few months ago.

The competition gets tougher now, and we’re unlikely to have such a great chance to blood so many youngsters in the quarters and beyond, but we should still be happy that these lads got their chance.
