Controversial referee appointed to take charge of Chelsea vs Barcelona clash

Chelsea will have to deal with the continuous threat of Barcelona on Tuesday as well as know how to handle themselves with referee Cuneyt Cakir set to officiate the Champions League encounter.

The Turkish referee is infamous for his decisions in the past involving English sides in the Champions League.

The last time Chelsea played against Barcelona in the Champions League, drawing 2-2 at the Camp Nou, it was Cakir who was in the middle of the pitch that night. He sent of John Terry for his kneeing Alexis Sanchez in the first half of the the game, but the Blues still made the final of the competition that year.

He has officiated five Barcelona games, where they have won four and drawn once in the process.

He was also the man at the center of the controversy when Manchester United lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League in 2013, sending Nani off for a foul on Alvaro Arbeloa.
