Chelsea’s hopes of signing Belgian wizard crushed by news from China

Chelsea will almost certainly be in the market for an attacking player this summer. Given they’re a top side they will always be looking to improve, but this summer in particular the time seems right to upgrade their threat in forward positions.

Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata, with Michy out on loan, provide good numbers up front, but in the positions behind them Willian and Pedro are both past 30, and Eden Hazard’s future looks increasingly uncertain. He will have one year left on his deal come the summer.

One of the options previously suggested for the Blues to pick up some extra depth in those positions was Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco, the talented Atletico wide man who has put in some superb showings but has been unable to produce consistently, and has now fallen out with Diego Simeone.

But news emerging in recent days has put paid to that idea, as the Belgian is apparently on the verge of a move to China.

It’s a shame to see a player of his talent leaving European competition, especially when he could have been a smart signing for the Blues.
