Chelsea priced out of move for wonderkid as impressive season goes on

As is so often the way in life, one wishes one had been decisive sooner. Chelsea are learning that now in the case of Leon Bailey.

The Bayer Leverkusen player was linked with plenty of clubs, including the Blues, this summer, but nobody made the offer necessary to prise him away.

Now, the impressive season that the Jamaican is having – he’s got 11 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions – has lead to his price booming.

The Metro – hardly a reliable source but quoting German paper Bild – are now saying that Leverkusen want €100m for their rising star.

Chelsea could have paid maybe a quarter of that in the summer, but their failure to recognise a budding talent has cost them. Given their reluctance to spend massive sums on players without significant Champions League experience, this may mean that the Blues have been priced out of a move for good.

Let’s hope not.
