Chelsea boss praises “wonderful” young player

Antonio Conte was asked in his press conference today about whether he needed to put an arm round Andreas Christensen after the Barcelona game where the Dane made a crucial error.

As well as denying that he’d needed to comfort the youngster, Conte took the chance to big him up, describing him as “wonderful” and claiming that he could be a star – and a captain – for Chelsea for ten years or more.

He even praised the defender’s game against Barcelona, which was superb despite the major error that cost Chelsea a win.

It’s just the confidence boost that the 21 year old would have wanted after a rough week. Christensen has never showed any signs of lacking confidence, and we can expect to see him take the field against Manchester United this weekend with his usual self assurance and calmness on the ball.

His breakthrough game was the reverse fixture back in November. On Sunday we can see just how far he’s come.
