Chelsea 4-0 Hull – Player Ratings

Chelsea crushed Hull in a convincing win in their FA Cup clash at Stamford Bridge.

It didn’t take the Blues long to get the lead, with Willian picking up a loose ball on the edge of the box with less than two minutes played. The winger jinked inside a defender and unleashed a shot that flew into the net with the keeper rooted to the spot.

The goals came thick and fast after that, with Pedro latching onto a lovely Fabregas pass to double the lead before Willian grabbed his second.

Olivier Giroud then tapped home from inside the six yard box to add a fourth before half time, after great work down the left from debutant Emerson Palmieri.

Things slowed down in the second half as Chelsea introduced a slew of subs, but there was still time for Willy Caballero to save a Hull penalty after Fabregas’ clumsy tackle in the area.

Here are our ratings from today’s featured Chelsea players…

Starting Eleven:

Willy Caballero – 7 – Had quite literally nothing to do until he saved a penalty early in the second half. Did well to get the ball clear, even if it was a good height for him.

Gary Cahill – 7 – Rock solid at the back against a feeble Hull attack.

Ethan Ampadu – 7 – As always was aggressive in his defending and looked totally at home in this game.

Antonio Rudiger- 7 – Commanding presence at the back, relished the challenge against Hull’s forwards.

Davide Zappacosta- 7 – A little quiet considering it was a game where he had plenty of chances to get forward, but worked hard up and down the right as always.

Danny Drinkwater – 6 – Really steady in midfield, giving defensive balance but also playing some dangerous passes and almost scoring with a ranged shot.

Cesc Fabregas – 8 – His wand of a right foot was in full force tonight as he conducted the orchestra with some superb passing from midfield. Subbed off for a rest early.

Emerson Palmieri – 7 – Quiet at first, but grew into the game through the first half, culminating in a run down the left to assist Olivier Giroud.

Pedro – 7 – Was super lovely from kickoff, getting involved in the play and wining the ball back high up the pitch. He got on the end of Cesc’s long ball with a beautiful touch to set himself up to score the second.

Olivier Giroud- 7 – Heavily involved in Chelsea’s attacking play, grabbing two assists and a goal before half time. He looks to have slotted into Antonio Conte’s team perfectly.

Willian – 9 – Superb from the very start, scoring, assisting and playing all manner of fancy flicks and touches. A truly star performance.

Substitutes:

Callum Hudson Odoi – 6 – Came on at half time and perhaps didn’t do as much as we would have liked, although he was limited by an improved and more defensive Hull defence after the break.

Kyle Scott – 6 – Looked a little nervy and gave the ball away cheaply once before being bailed out by Rudiger. Then played a great pass to launch an attack in the following move.

Alvaro Morata – 6 – Worked hard up front but the game was won by the time he was on.
