Antonio Conte hails ‘good option’ Olivier Giroud as striking competition intensifies

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was full of praise for his new signing Olivier Giroud after he was asked about his new strike pairing at the club.

The former Arsenal striker was introduced to the Stamford Bridge fans in their Premier League loss to Bournemouth, before debuting in a substitute appearance against Watford and then finally making a full debut against West Bromwich Albion last Monday.

His impact was a very fine one, combining with Eden Hazard for the first of three goals scored that night, and also visibly involved in tussles with Alan Pardew’s players.

His arrival at Chelsea will be most welcome by Antonio Conte and his technical players, who were of the belief Michy Batshuayi wasn’t of the standard required at the club.

Morata has faltered in making a mark after his performance in the first half of the season, and with the cracks appearing in Chelsea’s games in the new year, more qualities were needed at the club.

Conte has hailed his attacking options now and says they will offer good competition.
