The three reasons Chelsea are not interested in Alexis Sanchez

It seems like a no-brainer to most Chelsea fans, who are tearing their hair out that the club aren’t putting all their efforts into securing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. However as Liam Twomey of ESPN explains, there are good reasons that Chelsea aren’t in for the Chilean.

Firstly is the cost. While the £35m that Arsenal want isn’t much for a top player, he allegedly wants £300,000 per week at least, and his agent also wants a huge slice of the action. Chelsea aren’t interested in overpaying for the privilege of getting a bargain.

Secondly, Sanchez doesn’t fit the “profile” of player Chelsea look to sign. He’s 29 and has played more games than almost anyone in world football over the last few years. Chelsea very rarely sign players approaching 30, and certainly not on the wages mentioned above.

Thirdly, the doubt over Conte’s future mean that the board are unwilling to invest in players just to please him. There’s no guarantee he’ll be here next season, and if that’s the case they don’t want to be lumbered with an ageing player on huge wages for the new man to deal with.
