Chelsea fail to land another major target as transfer policy grows increasingly inexplicable

Chelsea used to be bullies in the transfer market. Rivals scouted their targets, failed to keep their interest under the carpet and then the Blues would jump in and sweep the players into their shopping cart, and check out without fuss. This has not been the case in recent seasons.

The transfer market is one of the most dreaded periods in the calendar year for Chelsea fans lately. Chelsea are linked with almost all the big name stars in world football but very few arrive at the club as signed players. A few of them go to Stamford Bridge as visitors from other teams in domestic or continental club competitions.

Following the failure to sign several of the top stars in their sights in previous transfer windows, Chelsea may be losing out on another top signing again for a terrible reason.

The Premier League champions late entrance into the chase for Alexis Sanchez means they have accepted Manchester United will win the race. The Red Devils are 75% through to completing the deal according to the Independent, with all that remains, a few details in the contract to iron out.

Why Chelsea left it so late to at least attempt to sign SanchezĀ is hard to explain.
