“I’m brutally honest there, I think I caught him” – Norwich defender admits to fouling Willian in penalty controversy

After Chelsea’s scare on Wednesday night in their FA Cup third round replay against Norwich, where they could have so easily been booted out, Timm Klose, the defender who brought Willian down in the box has admitted he actually fouled the Brazilian.

The Video Assistant Referee technology had judged the situation in Norwich’s favor and provoked a variety of reaction afterwards, although most pundits insist the Blues were treated unfairly.

Alan Shearer who spoke on Match of the Day was one of those strongly saying Chelsea deserved a penalty in that moment and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte also fuming at the decision after the game.

Now Timm Klose, who was the player to bring down Willian says he believes strongly the Blues deserved a penalty.

“I think the first one on Willian is a pen. I’m brutally honest there. I think I caught him. On the pitch I was not sure because it happened so fast. When I saw it again afterwards I was like ‘ooh, that’s quite close’. I guess you can give it.

The second one was a dive, from then on they pushed it too hard, went down a little bit too easily. Of course VAR would help the referee sometimes in some situations, but I’m not a big fan of it. Football is all about these situations.”

Antonio Conte’s men will now progress to the fourth round to face Newcastle United as they seek a cup win, with the league almost already won by Manchester City.
