“I don’t think Chelsea are going to be going down that route” – Frank Lampard doubts Chelsea will sign Carroll or Crouch this month

Chelsea have been ridiculed for approaching Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch amid their goal scoring problems this season but Frank Lampard thinks otherwise.

The Blues have been in the hunt for for a new forward with Carroll and Crouch both linked to the club. Their ability to play as target men has attracted the interest from Antonio Conte as far reports in the last few days have gone.

But they are not the kind of players Chelsea are after to solve the biggest problem facing them on the pitch this season, according to club legend Lampard.

The all time best scoring player for Chelsea insists although the Stoke and West Ham United strikers are ‘good at what they do’, it is almost impossible for the Blues to do business for them this month.

“I think both of those players would be a short-term or Plan-B sort of signing, I don’t think we’re looking at either of those players in the long-term. No disrespect to them, because they are very good at what they do, but I don’t think Chelsea are going to be going down that route.

There is obviously an issue with scoring goals recently, so they’re in a position where they need to something, but I think January is not the time. Maybe they are just trying to get themselves through to the summer and they’ll look forward from there.”

What might please Lampard is the news that Chelsea are in talks to sign Edin Dzeko from AS Roma. The Bosnian is a seasoned striker who has previously played for Manchester City and is still capable of playing for top clubs in Europe.
