Chelsea’s biggest problem amid struggles of summer signing

Chelsea just came off another disappointing weekend, failing to find a way past opposition defenders throughout 90 minutes.

The goal scoring mantle had been handed over to Alvaro Morata after the striker was signed from Real Madrid last summer, to replace another forward moving the opposite direction, Diego Costa. Costa had endured a few months of exchanges with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and was certain to leave for his former side Atletico Madrid.

But the Spaniard’s class and quality in front of goal has not been matched by Morata. The 24-year old had been one of the best forwards in the English top flight this season, from the start, but his involvement in Chelsea’s attack in recent game has ensured his oblivion when counting top class forwards these days.

He’s missed several clear cut chances and looks devoid of confidence. Like Conte said in his post match presser, every other outfield player in his squad is to blame for Chelsea’s lack of goals recently.

Goals win games. At the moment, the Premier League champions look like a side capable of winning with an own goal despite investing heavily in Morata over the summer.
