Chelsea suffer fresh setback in transfer after £20m target is ruled out for six weeks

Chelsea have suffered another setback in their transfer dealings after West Ham United striker Andy Carroll was been ruled out for another six to eight weeks with an injury to his ankle.

The England international has emerged as one of the Blues top targets this January as they go in search of cover for Alvaro Morata in the second half of the season.

Carroll is rated at £20million by West Ham who were initially reluctant to do business but according to the  Telegraph, the striker will be not subject to transfer talks between the two clubs after he pulled up injured in training. The ankle problem means Carroll cannot play for the next six to eight weeks, and that is two months Chelsea can not afford to waste, waiting for a new forward to recover.

The Premier League champions will now have to turn their attention to other targets. AS Roma’s Edin Dzeko and Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke have been mentioned as possible targets for Antonio Conte and his charges.
