Chelsea striker has the worst “big chance conversion” of top players in the league

Of all the players in the Premier League to reach ten goals this year, Alvaro Morata has the worst “big chance conversion” according to Opta.

That stat comes from a Sky Sports article that looks at the forward’s struggles in the last couple of months.

They claim that the former Real Madrid man’s drop in form came after the Manchester City game, where he went off injured in the first half.  Since then he has scored four goals in fourteen games, in stark contrast to his sparkling form at the start of his Chelsea career.

The game against Arsenal was a case in point, and while we don’t know exactly what Opta would call a “big chance”, there’s no doubt that the three one-on-ones that the Spaniard had against Petr Cech would fall into that category.

That game alone probably sent him plummeting down the rankings.

Still, there is plenty of room for optimism. The opening months of the season showed exactly how good he can be, and with a bit of work on his finishing and his mentality, he can hopefully get back into that groove once again.
