Chelsea return to Serie A for latest defensive target

Chelsea will be moving for AS Roma defender Emerson Palmieri as the search for a back up to Marcos Alonso continues this January transfer window.

The left back has been missing in Roma games in the last few months as he recovers from a serious Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury he suffered last year.

His position in the Roma side has been taken by former Manchester City left full back Aleksander Kolarov whose form has been immense since his arrival in Italy.

According to top Italy journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have settled on Palmieri to provide adequate cover for Alonso, who they bought from Fiorentina last summer, and their chase of the 23-year old has now been boosted by Roma’s ambition to fund the signing of their targets in the next transfer window.

Di Marzio reports that Roma are ready to sacrifice Palmieri for their summer ambitions and Chelsea would be the biggest winner in the potential charade, with the reports saying the Blues are ready to ‘gift’ their manager Antonio Conte.
