Chelsea finally begin talks for sensational £44m swoop of two Serie A stars

Chelsea have began negotiations with AS Roma over possible moves to bring in Edin Dzeko and left full back Emerson Palmieri this month as the search for quality back up players continue.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Dzeko, a former Manchester City striker has been valued at £57m by the Serie A club but Chelsea are willing to do business for him and Palmieri at around £44m plus a loan option for Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgium international is one of the players expected to leave Stamford Bridge this winter transfer window, but not until a replacement comes in to augment the efforts of lead striker Alvaro Morata.

Morata and Batshuayi have scored twelve goals between them in the Premier League this season, a number Chelsea clearly believe is not the standard they request and want Dzeko to come in and help lift that up.

Palmieri is also a needed cover for Marcos Alonso who has started all Premier League games this season.

But the deal could be scuppered by Roma’s stance of demanding more for the two players and the report by Di Marzio says Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is a target for Roma as well, if Batshuayi is not added to the deal.
