Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal – Player Ratings

Chelsea drew 0-0 with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a disappointing League Cup semi final.

The first half was a slow affair, with both sides playing cautiously at the opening of a two legged tie. Chances were few and far between, with Victor Moses’ two low left footed shots the best efforts for either side.

The second half saw a little more adventure, with Chelsea in particular starting brightly. Unfortunately for the Blues, their best chances fell to defenders, with Marcos Alonso missing one and Andreas Christensen failing to on two golden chances to head his side ahead.

As the game entered it’s final stages there were a couple of exciting moments, with a clumsy Danny Welbeck tackle on Cesc Fabregas in the box being referred upstairs to the newly present VAR team, who agreed with the referee that there wasn’t enough in it for a penalty.

Here are our ratings from today’s featured Chelsea players…

Starting Eleven:

Thibaut Courtois – 6 – Barely had a save to make, and coped well with the one dangerous effort on target that Arsenal mustered.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 7 – Defender superbly and provided some testing crosses into the box when the rest of the team were just passing sideways.

Andreas Christensen – 6 –  Defended well but missed two huge chances to win the game for his side.

Antonio Rudiger- 7 – Solid at the back as always. Barely put a foot wrong for 90 minutes.

Victor Moses – 7 – Had a lot of joy in the first half and tested Ospina twice with low drives. Continued to threaten down the right in the second half.

N’Golo Kante – 6 – Provided a solid defensive motor but didn’t give much in the final third.

Danny Drinkwater – 5 – Disappointing in possession and unable to create anything in the Arsenal half.

Cesc Fabregas – 6 – Not a poor performance but just didn’t quite provide the cute passes he usually does, just as the team sought a spark.

Marcos Alonso – 6 – Dependable down the left but couldn’t quite get on the end of the chances that fell to him.

Alvaro Morata – 6 – Strong up front and held the ball up well, but didn’t get enough service to really change the game. Worked very hard.

Eden Hazard – 6 – A couple of nice flicks in the first half and some clever runs in the second, but not up to his high standards, and should have shot instead of passing on a couple of occasions.

Substitutes:

Willian – 7 – Provided an immediate threat after coming on, dribbling and shooting when he had the chance.

Tiemoue Bakayoko – 6 – Didn’t have time to affect the game.
