Arsenal legend highly recommends 69-capped France international to Chelsea

Chelsea would be better off signing Olivier Giroud than most of the forwards they are being linked with in recent days, according to Arsenal legend Ray Parlour.

The Blues have been linked to several Premier League stars including Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch, stories that have caused a huge uproar and dampened spirits among fans. They clearly believe, from the evidence of the reactions on social media, that these deals have no merit.

The one attribute that these players share is their ability to play as a target man but evidently, there are better choices out there.

Ray Parlour believes instead of allowing Arsenal to ship off the France international to Germany, as reports say he may be on his way to replacing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang at the Bundesliga club, Chelsea should act fast and snap up Giroud.

“He would be perfect. Whether Arsenal would want to lose another of their players to a rival is another matter.

But I am sure if Chelsea put a decent bid in he would be tempted because he hasn’t got to move, he can live in London, a bit like Petr Cech. He was settled in London and wanted to stay there.”

Giroud has lost his place in the first team to summer signing Alexandre Lacazatte, and is almost on his way out of the Emirates.

He has scored seven times this season, four of them in the Premier League and a further three in the Europa League.
