Antonio Conte’s meeting with Roma star over transfer lead to nothing as Chelsea failed to agree fee

Further details have emerged about Chelsea’s pursuit of their long term target Radja Nainggolan last summer.

According to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Antonio Conte got as far as having a meeting with the Belgian as the two clubs tried to negotiate a fee to secure his transfer. However, in the end nothing was agreed, and the deal fell apart, leaving Conte unhappy and Chelsea without their prime midfield target.

It’s a piece of information that will hardly inspire Chelsea fans, who are already upset with the way their board has enacted transfer in recent times. While it’s made clear in the tweet that Nainggolan was never keen on a move to West London anyway, that’s a moot point as Chelsea and Roma never were able to agree a fee. This is the kind of cost cutting that is hurting the team and forcing Conte out.

The good news that came from this, however, is that Chelsea ended up signing N’Golo Kante instead.
