Antonio Conte leaps to Alvaro Morata’s defense after wasted opportunities against Arsenal

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has jumped to the defense of Alvaro Morata after the striker failed to convert clear chances against Arsenal on Wednesday.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus forward was guilty of wasting clear cut chances that would have put the game to bed for Chelsea. The chances that went begging would have been bagged by most forwards in the modern game.

His first was a perfect chance that fell his way after misjudgment by Arsenal defender Callum Chambers, who let Morata latch unto the ball from the halfway line, and march towards a defenseless Petr Cech. Morata had all the time in the world to round the goalkeeper or hit the ball cleanly around the Cech, but rather passed it behind for a goal kick.

He didn’t have the ball fall to him too kindly in the second chance but still, top class forwards would have converted that, and Morata is currently giving Chelsea fans their biggest scare of their lives. Their manager, Conte, says it’s only an unlucky period for the striker.
