Alvaro Morata missed Chelsea’s Tuesday night game against Huddersfield, but the forward will almost certainly return for this weekend’s clash with Southampton.
Morata missed out with what Conte said was a back issue, but in reality it’s just accumulated fatigue that’s the problem – even if that did express itself as a stiff back. With no viable alternative to the Spaniard up front he’s played almost non-stop since returning from his hamstring strain.
This lead to a decline in his performances, culminating in an anonymous showing last weekend against West Ham. That was a game that showed beyond all doubt that he needed a break, and having a full week off for the first time in a while will have done him a world of good.
Now he will return to face a Southampton side that looked extremely vulnerable as they were crushed 3-1 by Leicester last night, and the former Real Madrid man will look to get back into scoring form once again.
