Would you swap Willian for £30m Man United outcast?

This week’s transfer news has had Willian linked with a move to Old Trafford to replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan. It raises an interesting question: would you swap one former Shakhtar tammate for the other?

Willian and Mkhitaryan both played for Shakhtar Donetsk.

Willian has obviously proved himself in England and at Chelsea, and has shown himself to be a reliable player to come off the bench and play in rotated teams. He’s not perfect, and many fans seem to think the Blues are in a position where we can have world class players on the bench like Manchester City. Sadly that’s not the case.

Mkhitaryan has been a flop so far at Manchester United, but he has the advantage of being younger than Willian. The Armenian also has a great track record at Dortmund to point to. The fact that recently players like Kevin de Bruyne and Mo Salah have emerged as successes after being discarded by Jose Mourinho adds weight to the common speculation that players like Mkhitaryan just can’t flourish under him, and would do well under a different manager.
