Manager admits he’s powerless to stop Chelsea transfer

Sam Allardyce has admitted there’s only so much he can do to stop Ross Barkley moving to clubs like Chelsea, in quoted featured on Goal.com.

The newly appointed Everton boss hasn’t even had a chance to use the attacking midfielder, who has been out since the summer after undergoing hamstring surgery, and he may lose him before long.

Barkley’s contract runs out in the summer, and so he will be able to speak to other teams in January.

Chelsea are strongly linked with being one of the clubs that will make an approach for the England international, as are Tottenham. Barkley was rumoured to be on his way to Stamford Bridge in the summer, culminating in some crazy scenes on deadline day.

The media were reporting that the 24 year old was undergoing his Chelsea medical, before it was suddenly revealed that he’d pulled out of the deal.

Barkley and his team denied he had ever been as close as rumoured to a move, but it was still a humiliating moment for Chelsea as they had the rug pulled out from under them.
