Eden Hazard claimed after last night’s game that Chelsea had done everything they could do to win, but were stopped by an Atletico player in top form.
The Belgian insisted that it was thanks to the heroics of Jan Oblak that was more of an issue. It’s certainly true that the Atleti keeper had a superb game, making a string of saves and blocks, but that’s no excuse. Chelsea had the chances to win the game, and they fluffed their lines.

Alvaro Morata continued his annoying trend of missing the easy chances while excelling in other areas, although Oblak made a good save in their one on one. Andreas Christensen put a header straight at the goalkeeper then another one wide, and Willian spooned a shot over the bar with the ground holding it’s breath.
You might get away with that in the group stage, but in the knockouts, you don’t get second chances.
