Confusing Italian transfer saga could bring relief to Chelsea over key player’s departure

AC Milan goalkeeper Gigi Donnarmma is having a pretty topsy turvy year. 12 months ago he was breaking onto the scene as a 17 year old emerging as the Italian side’s first choice keeper, and as the world’s brightest prospect at the position.

Then it looked like he would leave Milan in the summer and go to Juventus. Then he decided to stay and signed a new deal. Now it’s all change again, and he looks set to leave again, with fans protesting about the behaviour of his agent and entourage.

If he does leave, as the Metro point out, the move could have knock on effects at Chelsea. The two prime locations for him to end up are Real Madrid and PSG, the two clubs with the means to persuade Thibaut Courtois to leave Chelsea when his deal expire in 2019.

If one of the two snaps up Gigi as expected, that will take them out of the running for Chelsea’s stopper.
