Alvaro Morata’s greatest flaw becomes clear to Chelsea fans

Chelsea put in a limp attacking performance against West Ham in Saturday’s game. The Blues dominated possession, especially in the second half where they notched over 70%, but just couldn’t create enough chances to overwhelm a super deep West Ham defence.

The problem was that the best chance fell to Alvaro Morata, and the Spanish forward fluffed his finish just as he did in midweek.

Nobody wants to criticise the forward, as he’s been excellent overall so far since signing in the summer, but it’s a flaw in his game. It’s now cost the side twice, and he’s still bailed them out more times than he’s cost them, but if it continues it will be a serious concern.

While aerially he is superb, on the ground he’s prone to choke with the easy finish yet score some of the trickier ones. No striker is perfect, and Chelsea’s last great forwards Didier Drogbs and Diego Costa had their faults too, but if Morata is ever to reach the amazing heights he’s capable of reaching, it’s something he will have to work on.
