“Without making any noise… he stands out as the true boss of the defence” – Chelsea’s quiet hero praised

Everyone was praising Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata in the win against West Brom yesterday, but some journalists picked out others for praise too.

This is certainly the case on Sport SFR, where Jean-Guy Lebreton has singled him out for praise after another immaculate game against West Brom yesterday:

“Without making any noise, “Azpi” stands out as the true boss of the defense.”

As the French journalist points out, the Spaniard has started all 50 league games since Antonio Conte’s arrival – the maximum possible. While Gary Cahill and David Luiz have been in and out of the side, Azpi has been a constant in the back three, never troubled by his form, or by injury, or by suspension.

With N’Golo Kante out of the side for a month Cesar looked unusually shaky, but the same can be said for every other player in the team in that period. Now the Frenchman is back the whole team are playing at their best and Azpi is quietly continuing to break records at the back.

It’s not surprise that recent interviews have seen the defender named by Eden Hazard as a future coach, and by Victor Moses as one of his greatest influences as he changed position last season.

Love live Azpi.
