“You need two good players in each position” – Chelsea youngster chasing down former Monaco man for Nigeria spot

Ola Aina finally made his competitive international debut for Nigeria this week, and according to his coach he’s in line to compete for a World Cup start.

His competition is Elderson Echiéjilé, who was at one point considered a serious rising talent. The left back, now plying his trade in Turkey at Sivasspor, was hoovered up by Monaco’s French talent factory in 2014, and he actually made a number of starts for them across the back line.

The competition proved too hot for Echiéjilé in the end, and he had a couple of unsuccessful loans in Belgium and Spain last season before making a permanent switch to the Super Lig.

With regards to the battle between the pair, Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr said “It’s good for the competition for Elderson Echiejile when you want to progress you need two good players in each position,” as reported on Own Goal Nigeria.

Ola is showcasing his talent at Hull this season, and has a great chance to earn a spot over the next few months.
