“Is Loftus-Cheek better than Fabregas? Yes.” – Former Chelsea player in no doubt about RLC potential

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, left, fights for possession with Andrew Hoole

It’s basically Ruben Loftus-Cheek week across the country as nobody has anything to talk about other than his performance for England against Germany.

It’s lead to all kinds of repetitive debates on sites like 5 Live, where the pundits were discussing whether it was right to have sent him out on loan this season.

In an exchange which you can see in the video below, Nevin asks “do you think that Loftus-Cheek is better than Cesc Fabregas?”, and before he could go on the ever popular Chris Sutton replies “Yes”.

It’s certainly a strong opinion, and not one that many Chelsea fans would share. Plenty would agree that RLC deserves more chances and that Fabregas is on the decline, but to claim that the youngster is already ahead of him is a pretty outlandish statement.

On the other hand, what most Chelsea fans will agree is that given Ruben’s rate of improvement and Cesc’s continuing decline, there will be few arguments that RLC should be replacing the Spaniard in the manager’s thinking next season.
