“He is in contention… he is fit” – Conte confirms defender ready to return

Antonio Conte today confirmed in his press conference that Gary Cahill will be fit for tomorrow’s game against West Brom.

It’s news that not all Chelsea fans will be happy with, given their preference for Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, but it’s another positive sign that the squad is returning to almost full fitness.

With Cahill back and David Luiz apparently happy and back in the squad, the Italian coach has a full set of centre backs to pick from. The question is whether he will opt for Luiz or Christensen, but on the left of the three a fit Cahill is almost certain to start.

The rest of the injury news is a little more concerning, with Michy Batshuayi ruled out with an ankle problem, Charly Musonda carrying a knee issue, and Danny Drinkwater and Victor Moses still not fully fit.

Still, the best part of the first XI are fit, and Conte has had two weeks on the training pitch with most of them. Expectations are high for tomorrow’s game at the Hawthorns.
