Chelsea’s Belgian forward out of action for two weeks

Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi has been ruled out for at least five games, according to a report from London Evening Standard.

The former Olympique de Marseille player hurt his ankle in Belgium’s first-team training session around a week ago during the last international break. He was sent back to Cobham to receive treatment for the problem, and is fortunate to have not suffered a more serious issue.

The news of his injury are old news, but with a Champions League clash against our Champions League group’s bottom side coming up, Batshuayi’s situation is very relevant for the Blues.

Last time Alvaro Morata had to start three games inside eight days’ time he injured his hamstring during the third appearance. It’s not that Morata wouldn’t be fit enough to play three games in a row, but since we’re playing against Qarabag – a very much weaker side than our usual opponents – before an important Premier League clash against Liverpool, you’d rather have Batshuayi take some work off Morata’s shoulders.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte could also have a simple solution for the situation should the board have done a better job last summer. Fernando Llorente was just one of the names who slipped through the Blues’ grasp, leaving the Italian manager with just two complete strikers in the side.
